Looking for something to do with the little ones today? The Dallas Museum of Art offers free activities for kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month. Programs are designed for children 5 and younger, but all ages are welcome to attend the art-making activities, story times, performances and gallery fun. Here’s the lineup for today, May 7, 2013, with the theme Heroes in Training.
Hero Training Camp, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Fleischner Courtyard: Leap over tall buildings, save the world and learn other superhero skills in this outdoor camp (weather permitting).
Art Activity, 11: a.m. – 2 p.m., Art Studio, C3: Create your own superhero cape.
Meet Arturo, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Arturo’s Nest, C3: Meet Arturo, the Dallas Museum of Art’s mascot, and play or read in the museum’s play space.
Superheroes of Kindness, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Tech Lab, C3: Help thank our local heroes by working on this oversized thank-you mural.
Art Cart, 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Galleries: Find creative games and activities.
StoryART with Ann Marie, 11:30 a.m. – noon, C3 Theater: Award-winning storyteller Ann Marie Newman will lead stories and songs based on art works.
Meet the Heroes Family Tour, 12:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m., C3 entrance: Get to know some of the heroes in this interactive tour of the museum’s collection: Vishnu, a Hindu god; Takenouchi, a Japanese warrior; and the Chinese lokapalas.
Story Time with the Dallas Public Library, 1 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., C3 Theater: Our librarian friends will read stories and lead children in an Every Child Ready to Read mini-workshop.
Lunch for children is available for $5.25 on First Tuesdays at the DMA Cafe.
The Dallas Museum of Art is located at 1717 North Harwood in Dallas; 214-922-1200. Admission is free but there is a charge for special exhibitions. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Monday, when the museum is closed. Extended hours, until 9 p.m., are held Thursdays.
